DevilDriver takes the stage!
When it comes to energy and groove, very few bands can rise to the calling of dominance such as Heavy Metal veterans Devildriver! Fresh off their brand new release Winter Kills, Devildriver signed to Napalm Records on tour co-headlining with Trivium and direct support from After the Burial and Thy Will Be Done brought everything expected and more to Portland’s packed Roseland Theater. A few things to keep in mind when going to a Devildriver show no matter what night, first, every night is Friday night and there will be a massive old school circle pit full of intense power so leave your sandals at home.
Full stage presence for DevilDriver in Portland!
After quality hang time with Dez and friends in the back lounge of the DevilDriver
bus getting our game faces on, the surreal moment quickly turned to anticipation for the chill that is, Winter Kills
! Opening the show with tunes like “Ruthless”, “Not All Who Wander Are Lost”, and “Before the Hangman’s Noose” Devildriver
quickly captured the crowd’s attention and would never let go. “Hey Portland do we have your attention now” shouted frontman and badged metal captain Dez Fafara after blistering the congregation with more favorites like “I Could Care Less” and “The Appetite
DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara!
Groove always seems natural for Devildriver
, consisting of Lead Vocalist Dez Fafara, guitars Michael Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick, bassist Jon Miller, and drummer John Boecklin. This could be one reason Devildriver was able to record and perform the highly successful remake of AWOLNATION
hit “Sail”. Never shying away from a cover and making it their own, Devildriver
smoked this tune live and I would expect another unconventional tune from them in the future. Whether dedicating songs to the ladies and pit dwellers, or encouraging Portland to see the light, Devildriver
burned through “Head On To HeartAche”, “Cry For Me Sky” and one of Beast’s
mammoth hits “Dead To Rights”.
DevilDriver axeman Michael Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick!
On stage with Eyes of Fire and a Winter Kills stage design complete with ramps and light show that could easily pass for an arena concert, the heavily summoned clouds set in. It would be hard pressed to come up with closing the night out with 3 harder hitting tunes than “Clouds over California”, “End Of The line“, and “Meet the Wretched”. “Portland you’ve never let me down” sounded frontman Dez Fafara and I would have to say directly back to you sir, “No Dez, you’ve never let Portland or the Metal world down and thank you”!
The Winter Kills tour
runs through November closing December 14th at the Soma
in San Diego CA. Grab a ticket, your bowl, and get out there and support Metal, in the name of Devildriver
! Keep Rockin and see you dudes on the other side!
