As the smoke settled and the blistering sun slowly set on Sunday evening, the 25th annual Seattle Hempfest (August 19th-21st) came to a close. Billed as the nation’s most epic three-day “protestival,” the Seattle Hempfest unfailingly unites the cannabis community for what some see as the best cannabis family reunion around. Activists, musicians, speakers, vendors, educators, innovators, dreamers, wanderers, and Freedom fighters all ascend into the legalized city of Seattle, Washington for a weekend of common kinship, joining the many forces and people collectively shaping the future of the cannabis industry.
I was honored to speak four times, including serving as a panelist for the Hemposium stage on Friday and a main stage appearance on Sunday where I mentioned Devontre Thomas, a 19-year-old college student federally arrested for a gram of legalized Oregon marijuana, highlighting the continuing need for activism and the important role that activism plays for cannabis business and innovation, plus I attempted to make the case with THE END near that the 1971 classic song “Sweet Leaf,” still inspiring many today, should give Black Sabbath at least a mention among the cannabis musician elite with artists like Bob Marley and the Grateful Dead! Between speaking, vending at Urb Age Designs in my usual #425 main stage space, and wearing Portland NORML and 420Radio.org badges of honor, this festival was as busy as ever! Friday was so hot that it was more about surviving the wrath of the cloudless NW heat! Saturday was a little more tolerable with Sunday finally returning to true Pacific NW grey sky fashion (only to burn off by afternoon). Packed with five stages including the brand new Caviar Gold “Cavi-Land” stage, endless cannabis industry vendor shopping from gifts and apparel to inhalation tools like Pretzel Pipes, and a Friday VIP party featuring some of the cannabis industry elite, it’s easy to see why the Seattle Hempfest remains a leader in the ever-growing and always-evolving cannabis industry! See you next year for the 26th Seattle Hempfest!
